Privacy and data flow
Free AlphaTwo different things get confused constantly, so this page keeps them apart: what the Nerve product sends to an AI provider during play, and what this website collects when you visit it or send us feedback.
Part one — the Nerve product
The Nerve bridge runs on your own machine, but Nerve is not an offline product, and we will not tell you your data never leaves your computer. Selected campaign context and source references are sent out to the external AI provider you choose.
What gets sent, and to whom
When you make a request during a tracked session, the extension gathers relevant campaign context, the local companion passes it to the AI application you selected, and that provider processes it on their own systems under your own account. Backchannel Studios is not in the middle of that exchange and does not receive your campaign content.
GM-only material can be included
This is the part most groups do not expect. "GM-only" governs what players see inside Fantasy Grounds. It does not stop material from being sent to the provider. Secrets, notes and unrevealed plot can be part of the context a request carries.
Your provider's terms apply, not ours
- Your provider decides how long they retain what you send, and who at that provider can see it. Read their policy — it governs your campaign content, not anything we publish.
- Your AI account costs and allowances are separate from Nerve. Tests and gameplay both consume your allowance. Nerve is free during alpha; your provider is not necessarily.
- Sign-in is owned by your provider. Nerve does not see or store your provider password.
Get your group's agreement first
Campaign context is not only yours — it includes your players' characters, their decisions and things they said at the table. Before you route a campaign through an AI provider, tell your group which provider you are using and let them read its policy. That is a conversation to have before session one, not after.
Part two — this website
Separate from anything the product does. This section is about
thebackchannel.studio itself.
Browsing these pages
- No analytics and no marketing scripts. There is no tracking script, no advertising pixel and no third-party analytics on this site. Downloads and setup instructions work with scripts blocked entirely.
- No cookies are set by this site, and nothing here asks for consent to set any.
-
Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which means your browser makes
a request to
fonts.googleapis.comandfonts.gstatic.com. That is the only third-party request these pages make. - Standard hosting logs. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps ordinary server request logs as part of running the service.
Sending a feedback report
- Only what you send. Reports reach us by email, so we receive the text you write and the address you send it from — nothing is collected from this site when you report something.
- Text only. Please do not attach diagnostic bundles or campaign archives; see the warning below.
- Reports are not published. What you send is not posted publicly by us.
Passwords, API keys and tokens; private conversations with your players; text from licensed adventures; and spoilers your group has not reached. If we need a support bundle, we will ask for it and take it privately — review it yourself before sending it anywhere.
What happens to a feedback report
There are two reporting routes, and they are not equivalent. The Fantasy Grounds forum thread ↗ is public: anything posted there is visible to everyone, is hosted by SmiteWorks under their terms rather than by us, and is not ours to remove. Redact before you post.
Private reports reach us by email. That means your report, and the email address you send it from, arrive in the studio's mailbox and are kept there while we work through alpha feedback. Only Backchannel Studios reads them. We do not publish what you send, and we do not pass it to anyone else.
If you would rather not be identifiable, send the report from an address that is not tied to your name, and leave out anything you would not want us to have. To ask us to delete a report you have sent, write to backchannelstudios1@gmail.com from the address you used and say which report you mean.
We cannot promise a response time, so this page does not print one. If the in-page report form is switched on later, this section will be updated to describe where those reports are stored before the form goes live.
